Some more info...

As a basketball instructor at Camp Lenox, you'll spend your summer coaching on our indoor and outdoor courts in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. Each day brings new opportunities to develop players' skills through dynamic drills, competitive games, and focused training sessions. You'll work with campers of all abilities – from beginners learning proper shooting form to advanced players preparing for inter-camp tournaments. Our well-equipped facilities include both indoor and outdoor courts, giving you the flexibility to run engaging programs regardless of weather.

The basketball program at Lenox encourages instructors to bring their unique perspective and experience to the court. You'll have the freedom to design creative drills and implement effective teaching strategies while working alongside other passionate coaches. Whether you're running full-court scrimmages, teaching fundamental skills, or preparing teams for competition, you'll find satisfaction in watching your players develop throughout the summer. This role is perfect for those who have played at the high school or college level and want to share their knowledge of the game with the next generation of players.

Your role at Lenox is dual-purpose – you're not just a basketball instructor, but also a bunk counselor living with and mentoring a group of campers. When you're not on the courts, you'll guide your bunk through daily activities, build cabin spirit, and create the kind of memories that make summer camp special. You'll have one day off per week to explore the beautiful Berkshires with fellow staff members. The position includes competitive compensation, housing, meals, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact both on and off the court. It's a demanding but incredibly rewarding way to spend your summer, combining your love of basketball with the chance to be a role model for young campers.

LEADER

Lead by example! There won’t always be someone around to tell you what to do, and we love self-starters. Figure out what needs to be done, then get out there and do it.

Lenox is not a spectator camp, and we expect you to be a role model by participating in all group activities. Camp is fun, but it will also be demanding.

TEACHER

Your activity should be something you love and have some expertise.

Just because you’re good at something, doesn’t mean you’re qualified to teach it.

You will be expected to make your activity fun and engaging while providing plenty of opportunities for kids to excel.

Be ready to contribute at camp with confidence, understanding, experience, and enthusiasm.

Y STAFF (16).jpeg

PROFESSIONAL

You will be expected to maintain a clean and professional appearance at all times and to respect the buildings and facilities as if they were your own.

Camp spirit means a lot at Lenox, and you should be prepared to keep things upbeat with your infectious enthusiasm.

Your body language is a powerful form of communication. We expect you to be enthusiastic and to look it. You should smile, not frown. Your speech should be free from profanity or other harmful words.

Days at camp are long, with a busy schedule to maintain. Periods of rest and renewal are vital to a good summer.

You will receive three nights off per week and five days off through the course of the summer.

We want you to take full advantage of your time off so you’ll stay refreshed during the summer.

ROLE MODEL

When Rich and Stephanie speak with parents about Lenox, they stress enrichment, safety, physical growth, and emotional well-being for children. That’s what you’re expected to provide.

Remember: you’re taking care of other people’s kids. Your own personal actions speak louder than words when working with children. We expect you to uphold the ideals of Camp Lenox and be a great role model.

Becoming a camp counselor at Lenox requires a very special skill set and may not be for everyone. Prospective staff need to be mature, responsible men and women ages 19 and up who’ve completed at least one year of college. They also need to enjoy working with children in a residential setting and have strong social skills. Staff members will go through a 1-week orientation and a 7-week full camp experience during the summer.

"As a first time counselor, I had a new role in camp. Whether it was in the bunk, at AICs or at group periods, I found it very rewarding to help campers get better and/or solve their problems.”-Josh Cooper, Staffer
