Balance. Determination. Self-confidence. A commitment to excellence. Foundational qualities that you want to impart to your children.
You’re not alone. At Camp Lenox, we share these goals. We’re parents too, and we have high expectations.
Every summer, children from around the nation and around the world come to Camp Lenox and have the time of their lives. Ask any camper what they think of Lenox and you’re likely to hear “It’s the GREATEST place on earth!” (of course, we agree.) And while children are having a great time at camp, they’re busy making life-long friends, developing new skills, and building character.
Really, this is what summer camp is all about. You have fun, you grow. You go home a little more mature than when you came.
“Having camp in my life has brought meaning to my teenage experience; it has provided an outlet for me to be a leader when I wanted to be, to be quiet when I felt the need to be, to take risks when I felt them necessary, and to, at times, stumble and fail – because it is the ultimate safety net.”
Alex L. – Collegian Boy
The following extended quote was recently sent to us by a camper from New Zealand.
I had very high expectations after hearing all of Ranjit's stories, but Camp Lenox completely exceeded them in little under a week. It was very strange meeting so many people at first but it didn’t take long for me to make a lot of very good friends I'll never forget. I’m still reconciling myself to the fact that they’re half way across the world and that I may never see them again.
When I first heard the details about Color War, I didn’t get what the big deal was. How could this be such a competitive event when there’s only two teams, no prize, and you have to play against your friends? I was told to wait and see. It hit me as I ran down the camp road at 11:30 at night, barefoot, not knowing what I was doing but feeling the excitement when Mitch and Munsy ran out shouting “Color War!” I’ve participated in a lot of tournaments and competitions for many different sports — even national events —; none of them even came close to the fun and intensity of Color War.
In 2009 I had to run for my life from one of the biggest tsunamis ever which hit the island of Samoa while my family was on holiday. I ran a 400 meter sprint through trees and bushes, then up a hill to escape. Running in the “Round the Bases” event that decided Color War was almost as scary and emotional as running from that tsunami. From the moment I felt the tag on my hand to the moment I crashed into Tomo’s chest, I concentrated harder than every before.
All of these things contributed to the best experience of my life. I never got a chance to say goodbye or thank you in person. I want to thank you, Steph, and Coach from the bottom of my heart for giving me the chance to join the Camp Lenox family for the best seven weeks of my life. Camp Lenox is truly my slice of heaven.
Josh W. – Lower Senior Boy
Since 1918, we’ve had a lot of fun at Camp Lenox, and this year, we invite you and your child to join us.
